Combining dream pop, indie, electronic, industrial, trip hop and alternative rock with soaring, passionate vocals, Canadian musicians Jay Bonaparte (guitarist/songwriter) and Michelle Opthof (vocalist/keyboardist/lyricist) record together as Paragon Cause. Their latest EP “Lies Between Us” was produced by long-time DaveCromwellWrites favorite Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes (with over a decade of his work covered here). This brand new six song EP has Mr. Wagner's instantly recognizable digital fingerprints all over it, while never obscuring Jay and Michelle's dominant creativity.
Canadian Beats Review of Lies Between us
For a debut EP, Paragon Cause tried a new formula over a classic one and really mixed it well together. The interesting mix of musical styles throughout, combined with the dark and moody melodies are something for anyone to enjoy, and the vocals on top of all that is marvelous. With an album set for a 2020 release, I know I will be keeping an eye out once it drops.

Indie Midlands Review of Save Me
Musically ‘Save Me’ reminds me of 80’s acts like the late Kirsty Maccoll and to a degree Voice Of The Beehive. All be it with a fuzzier guitar sound. The vocals are pure and suit the song well. Lyrically it’s nice when a song has a genuine message – “Words for me fall on deaf ears when I’m miles ahead, Let me take you back. History repeats itself.” sings vocalist Michelle Opthof. “You cannot save them all” she reflects on the fact you need to sometimes accept you can’t do everything and no matter how hard you try some people just can’t be saved.
Some Party - Canadian Music Website Reviews Save Me
Ottawa-based indie-rock/electronic duo Paragon Cause has a new EP on the way titled Lies Between Us, due September 13. From that set, the group recently released the single "Save Me." It, like much of the band's recent studio work, was produced by Sune Rose Wagner of the long-running Danish rock group The Raveonettes. Vocalist/keyboardist Michelle Opthof commented on the politically-charged track, which the band had set out to write as a punk song:
